Join the secret ranks of the forest guardians. The silent and watchful protectors of the wild places. The shadow scouts are a secret group of highly trained individuals who possess keen awareness of all situations and possibilities while in the wilderness. By constantly staying alert to all of the smells, sights and sounds of the woods scouts experience the natural world in a whole new way that inspires a desire to be outside more and more. Through a constant set of stories, games, activities, challenges and small group projects we will explore:
- How to expand our wilderness awareness
- How to move naturally, silently and invisibly on the landscape
- How to use secret codes and hand signals for communication
- How to read maps and simple navigation techniques
- How to start and maintain fires and build simple shelters
- How to shoot traditional bows and arrows using intuitive archery
In addition to the above, campers will also be shown how to take care of themselves when it comes to secret and silent outdoor travel. Things such as not being seen, heard or discovered as you move across the landscape in pursuit of resources to keep alive. Maintaining your gear and tools while on the move. Blending yourself and your tools into the landscape. This is a very exciting hands-on camp where parents should expect campers to come home wet, dirty and tired at the end of each day, but filled with stories of adventure, the skills of basic survival, ability to effectively shoot a bow and to develop a deeper appreciation of the senses. Camps fill fast, so register today!
