When it comes to outdoor skills, the ability to craft your own bow and arrow for use in procuring food and protecting your tribe is all but a forgotten skill. During this exciting and inspirational hands-on class, students get a chance to experience the art of making their own bow & arrows from Ash Wood found locally around Austin. Students will learn all about:
- Selecting a good wood for a bow
- Safe & effective carving techniques
- Tying knots for your bow string
- Making simple arrows
- Traditional bow shooting techniques
In addition to the above, each student will leave with a fully functional wooden bow and arrow for use at home. Students will be taught all about safe handling, drawing and releasing of arrows into targets by professional archery instructors certified through N.A.S.P. Students will also get a chance to shoot at a few 3D targets on the landscape in order to practice moving and stalking with their bow.
