When it comes to crafting from nature, nothing is as cool as making your own basket from a wild landscape. Harvesting wild berries, carrying your other nature crafts, or a gift for a loved one, there isn’t anything a basket cannot do. During this exciting hands-on class, students will have fun being challenged to source their own resources for use in construction of their natural baskets. Experienced weavers will work closely with students to make sure proper guidance and attention to detail is the focus throughout the day. Students will also explore areas of:
- Different types of materials for baskets
- How to prepare your materials
- Different weaving methods and styles
- How to finish their new basket evenly
In addition to the above, students will also get a chance to see and feel a wide variety of naturally crafted baskets and how they function. This helps aid in students understanding what day to day life was like long ago for native peoples. Through hands-on crafting, students gain a new sense of appreciation for plants, trees, and our ancestors of long ago.
