When it comes to playing outside, there’s nothing like flinging a few arrows you made yourself across a field at a target with a bow. During this amazing two day class for teens ages 13-16, experienced archer and arrow maker Chris Hyde will guide them from wooden branch to finished arrow. Each student will leave the class with their own primitive arrow as well as an arrow they can shoot at targets at home. During the class students will also explore areas of:

  • Remove bark from your arrow shaft with stone tools
  • Use steam or fire to straighten shafts
  • File string nocks for shooting & nocks for hafting arrowheads
  • Fire hardening & burnishing arrows for better durability
  • Fletch on wild turkey feathers with natural sinew
  • Make pine pitch glue in order to help transition arrowheads

In addition to the above, students will also get a chance to learn how to make their own bone arrowhead for their primitive arrow. We will also discuss making hide glue and its uses for making extremely durable arrows. This class only takes place once each year after our Teen Bow Making Weekend.
