When it comes to outdoor skills, a knife is one of the best tools for making all your other supplies such as shelters, fires, bows, digging sticks and more. During this exciting day long class for children aged 7 to 12, we will learn all about knives and how to best use one for their outdoor adventures. Each child will be guided by experienced whittlers in order to give them, and you the parents, the confidence, patience and respect when using their knives to create a wide variety of tools and wooden crafts at home. We’ll explore:

  • Knife Anatomy & Designs
  • Safe Handling & Passing
  • Efficient Carving Techniques
  • Contact Splitting
  • Knife Care & Sharpening

In addition to the above, students will also be given a wide variety of projects and challenges to complete while in class such as shaving bark off, carving a spear, making a wedge, carving notches, and much more. This is a perfect class for your Boy or Girl Scout to earn their Whittling Chip for their troop.
