Exploring our Past: Free Archaeology Events at Natureversity Outdoor School

Join us for one Monday each month for an engaging series of free events at Natureversity Outdoor School, designed to help the Capital Area Master Naturalists earn Advanced Training hours while inviting the public to delve into the fascinating world of archaeology. Each week, we will explore the daily lives of traditional and indigenous communities who thrived in harmony with the Earth long ago.

Our sessions will cover a variety of hands-on topics, including:

  • Basic Tools: wood, stone, bone, glues & adhesives
  • Fiber Crafts: baskets, cordage, lashings, knots, hide tanning
  • Ancient artistry: jewelry, shells, beads, stones, bones and more
  • Survival skills: fire making, shelter building, water containers, navigation & first aid
  • Prehistoric hunting: atlatls, throw sticks, bows, slings, bolas, traps and more
  • Useful plants & cooking: foods, medicine and primitive cooking methods

Whether you’re a Master Naturalist looking to expand your knowledge or a curious member of the community, these events are perfect for anyone interested in understanding the skills and traditions that shaped our ancestors’ lives. Come join us as we connect with history and celebrate the resourcefulness of those who lived close to the Earth!
