During this inspirational and hands-on class, participants will learn how to create a traditional coiled basket from locally sourced pine needles in East Austin. From forest floor to finished basket, students will work closely with experienced basket weavers in order to aid in the creation of you new pine needle basket. Students will learn all about:

  • Locating & harvesting pine needles
  • Cleaning, drying & storing pine needles
  • Soaking for pliability
  • Unique stitching styles
  • Other materials to use besides pine needles

All basket making supplies, tools and materials will be provided in order for each student to leave home with one pine needle basket. There is always plenty of material left over if any students want to make another basket at home or continue the basket from class in order to make it bigger.
