Its always nice to have a nice bow, but it’s the arrow that makes change take place elsewhere. During this exciting and inspirational weekend all about archery skills, students will be guided in crafting their very own primitive self arrows for use with their Hickory Self Bows. Starting with a seasoned arrow shaft of Ash wood, students will learn how to:
- Remove bark from your arrow shaft with stone tools
- Use steam or fire to straighten shafts
- File string nocks for shooting & nocks for hafting arrowheads
- Fire hardening & burnishing arrows for better durability
- Fletch on wild turkey feathers with natural sinew
- Make pine pitch glue in order to help transition arrowhead
In addition, each student will also be provided with a handmade flintknapped arrowhead for their primitive arrow. We will also discuss making hide glue and its uses for making extremely durable arrows. This class only takes place once each year after our Traditional Bow Making Class.
