The knowledge of how to transform natural clay into pottery signifies a major leap forward for ancient cultures and until the development of metal cooking pots and pans, all natural ceramic pottery was the height of cooking technology. During this inspirational hands-on class students will take raw clay from the earth and transform it into fully functional and fired pottery for use in all of your outdoor adventures. Participants will learn all about:
- Locating & harvesting wild clay
- Filtering & processing wild clay
- Sourcing natural tempers
- Hand-building techniques
- Different primitive tools for crafting
- Burnishing with stones
- Painting our clay pots
- Firing primitively
Every student will leave with 3 to 4 clay pots that they made themselves in a wide variety of different methods. Some include pinch pots, coiled pots with handles and even corrugated pots. All tools, materials and supplies will be provided during this class and each participant will leave some additional clay to take home and create more pots to inspire their community and family with these beautiful works of functional art.
