During this inspirational and hands-on class, participants will learn how to create one of the easiest and most versatile baskets that can be made from locally sourced materials here in Central Texas. From forest floor to finished basket, students will work closely with experienced basket weavers in order to aid in the creation of you new melon basket. Students will learn all about:
- Locating & harvesting rootlets, vines and shoots
- Cleaning, drying & storing materials
- Soaking for pliability
- Unique basket designs
- Other materials that can be used
All basket making supplies, tools and materials will be provided in order for each student to leave home with one small sized melon basket. There is always plenty of material left over if any students want to make another basket at home or continue the basket from class in order to make it bigger.
