Have you ever had a desire to learn how our ancestors crafted arrow points, knife blades and axe heads from sharpened stones? During this inspirational and hands-on class students will learn all about how stone tool manufacturing, known as flintknapping, evolved as well as how to identify natural materials found around Texas from which you can produce a variety of sharpened tools. This class will introduce the basics of:

  • Overview of tools – both modern and primitive
  • Safety when manufacturing stone points
  • Percussion knapping & pressure flaking techniques
  • Abrading and notching methods
  • How to use your new stone tools in the field

In addition, students will also be provided with a few locations that you can visit to collect your own stones for making tools. This class is the perfect introduction to providing the foundation needed for years of frustration, small cuts and the exhilaration of crafting fully functional works of art from stones. All materials and tool are included.
